A Troy woman is facing attempted murder charges stemming from a Saturday night shooting incident.

Martha Ann Johnson, 44, was being held in the Pike County Jail on $75,000 bond. She was arrested Sunday after Troy Police began an investigation into the incident.

Police learned of the shooting around 11 p.m. Saturday, when medical staff at Troy Regional Medical Center’s Emergency Room reported a victim with multiple gunshot wounds, said Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

Clifford Berry, 71, reportedly drove himself to the ER, where he was treated for multiple gunshot wounds, Scarbrough said. “He told police he had been shot by Martha Johnson.”

Scarbrough said the two were involved. “They had been in a dating relationship.”

The incident took place at Johnson’s residence on the Elba Highway. Scarbrough said Berry had been hit four times by bullets from a small-caliber handgun, “and it appears the bullets that struck him were bullets from a gun provided by Johnson.”

Berry has been transferred to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for treatment.

Scarbrough said the case remains under investigation.
