ZION CHAPEL – Eufaula scored nine runs in the seventh inning to eliminate Troy American from the District 6  tournament in Zion Chapel Saturday night.

For six innings, both team’s pitchers dueled  in a defensive struggle before heading to extra innings where Eufaula would prevail, 10-2.

“This was as good a Dixie Minor game as you will see,” Troy head coach Frank Scarbrough said. ” These guys played a very entertaining game.”

Troy’s Jackson Giles retired the first nine Eufaula batters he faced in order before allowing  his first baserunner in the fourth. Giles would also benefit from three double plays in his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Troy led off the fourth with a walk and hit batsman. Cody Hollis then singled and Lawson Scarbrough doubled to drive home the game’s first run.

Eufaula tied the game in the sixth with a two-out RBI single that squirted through the infield. Troy then failed to score in the bottom of the inning to force extra frames.

After Eufaula’s nine-run outburst, Ty Singleton would single home Christian McCall to score Troy’s second run.

“I’m proud of this team,” Scarbrough said. “Eufaula played better than we did but both teams were fun to watch today.”

Both Troy teams have now been eliminated. Troy Nationals lost to Enterprise on Friday.
