ZION CHAPEL –The Troy Nationals left twelve runners stranded on base and fell to Enterprise 7-4 in the Dixie Minor District tournament in Zion Chapel Friday afternoon.

“When you leave runners on base and make errors it’s hard to win,” head coach Chris Huner said after the game.

“I’m proud that we didn’t give up; we just didn’t play well enough to come out ahead.”

Troy led 2-0 early when Noah Lowery and Cole McWhorter singled scoring Daniel Phillips and Will Reeves.

Enterprise threatened in the bottom of the first but Troy third baseman Will Stevens relayed a ball from the outfield to gun down the runner at home plate. Shortstop Brock Huner then made a backhanded stop and threw a strike to first to end the inning.

After Troy left the bases loaded in the second inning, Enterprise scored on a triple by Chris Sanders who would later come home on a wild pitch. Gage Anderson also tripled and scored giving Enterprise a 3-2 lead.

The Nationals tied the game in the third on a Reeves RBI single.

Enterprise responded with two runs on another triple. After a single, Reeves speared a line drive and stepped on first to stop the bleeding.

Sanders would add his second triple, the team’s fourth, to help extend Enterprise’s lead to 7-3.

Troy, however, would only muster one more run in the sixth to end their tournament run.

While disappointed, Huner was proud of his team’s effort.

“We played some good teams and played well; these guys had fun and so did I.”

Clay Barron and Brax Barron also had hits for Troy.
