Can Troy schools build on hiring momentum?

Seeing consensus is a rewarding thing.

And that’s just what happened this week, when the Troy City Schools hired Dr. Boyd English as principal at Charles Henderson High School.

Dr. English was one of five finalists for the superintedent position. He was impressive during his interview, and he brings and impressive resume and references to the table.

Ironically, he had applied for both the superintendent position and the open position at CHHS.

And, as fate would have it, Troy administrators quickly sought to schedule an interview for the principal position when they learned he was not named the new superintendent.

Dr. English appears to be a popular choice among administrators, board members and, just as important, the faculty and parents who sat in and listened to the interview process.

Moreover, he comes with strong references and recommendations that speak of his integrity and his success in bringing about change and growth in his current school in Georgia, local school leaders say.

Now, the challenge for the administrators and the new superintendent Lee Hicks, once his contract is finalized and signed, will be to hire a new campus principal for Charles Henderson Middle School.

We realize that time is running short. Many administrators have already signed contracts for the 2011-2012 school year, which starts in approximately 45 days.

But we’re hopeful the administrators will be able to find another strong candidate like Dr. English. And, we’re hopeful that they can quickly work through the interview and recommendation process to move toward hiring of a new principal.

We’d like to build on the momentum, and the consensus, surrounding the hiring of Dr. English.
