Troy Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the post office just off of Brundidge Street around 10:30 a.m.

Debra Alums, Postmaster at the city of Troy Post Office, said when she noticed smoke billowing up inside the building, along with the smell of “burnt rubber,” she made the call to local authorities.

“It turns out, it was just a belt burning up in the air conditioner,” Alums said. “I could smell something like burnt rubber and we take every precaution necessary to ensure the safety of our employees.”
