Driving down Brundidge Street seems like a hassle, but, when it comes to making improvements, you just can’t rush perfection.

Mike Davis, Water and Sewer Superintendent, said the improvements on Brundidge Street will require one-lane traffic from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“That’s going to keep taking place,” Davis said. “As need be, we will close Brundidge Street and reroute traffic on certain days of the week, based on the kind of project we’re doing.”

Davis said he anticipates the improvements to continue to be made over the next two to three weeks.

“We are replacing a 12-inch water main,” Davis said. “What’s happening right now is we’re trying to put a new water main in to lower it so the city can go in and do a street-widening project.”

Davis said the gas line, the phone line and the power have to be relocated. “Once we get this water main in the ground, the other three or four entities have to come in and do work,” Davis said. “We’ll cut the shoulders down, relocate all the utilities and then we’ll widen the street and put a sidewalk in and pave it. We’ve got a long way to go.”

Davis said the water-line project will leave Brundidge Street and turn on Center Street, and eventually lead to the same work to be done at the intersection of Madison and Brundidge Street.

“We’ll have a lot of projects going simultaneously,” Davis said.
