Lois Finlay, director of Sav-A-Life in Troy, was awarded the prestigious Book of Golden Deeds award at the Thursday meeting of the Troy Exchange Club.

The goal of the award is to give recognition to an individual that has served the local community but not been publicly recognized as doing so.

Dr. Ed Merkel, Exchange Club awards chair, said Finlay does golden deeds every day in the work that she does with women in crisis situations by offering physical, emotional and spiritual help to those affected by unplanned pregnancies.

Finlay expressed appreciation to the Exchange Club members for the award and told them that she has “the best job in town.”

“I love my job,” she said. “I serve Him every day through serving others”

Finlay said Sav-A-Life is a wonderful organization that serves about 1,400 women in Pike County every year.”

Sav-A-Life of Troy offers pregnancy testing, as well as dedicated Laity counselors to listen, advise and to help women make informed decisions.

“We also offer a variety of classes including nutrition, marriage, abstinence and parenting classes for women and perspective fathers,” Finlay said.

“There are a lot of issues that are brought to the table. At Sav-A-Life, we never know what the day will bring.”

Sav-A-Life is a non-profit organization and depends on community support for its continued operation.

Finlay expressed appreciation to the Troy Exchange Club for its support and to the Troy community that has been generous in its giving.

“At our auction in March, we raised $16,000,” she said. “That will keep our doors open for four months.”
