TroyFest on the square in downtown Troy is a family oriented arts event that features an entire section for kids ages 10 and under.

Fun can be found in every nook and cranny of the The Messenger Kids Corner, which is on the corner across from Byrd’s Drugs and in close proximity to the many other events of TroyFest.

The Kids Corner keeps the same hours as TroyFest, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

“The Kids Corner has a stage separate from the TroyFest Care Ambulance Stage,” said Sunny Smith, Kids Corner committee chair. “We will have entertainment on the kids’ stage throughout the day on Saturday. The First Baptist Church Puppets Praising Christ shows will be at 9 and 11 a.m. and 1 and 3 p.m. The Troy University Pied Pipers will perform at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The entertainment is free and parents are welcome to enjoy these performances with their kids.”

The kids will also be invited to try their hands at several building projects at the Lowe’s “Do It Yourself Kids Building Project.”

“Kids that visit ‘the corner’ between the hours of nine and one o’clock will get to build a small birdhouse, a bird or some other of nature’s characters,” Smith said.

Sand art is another favorite activity for the kids and they will have the choice of making a necklace or one of four different glass bottles.

“There is no charge for the crafts projects and the kids will have something they have made to take home with them,” Smith said. “A sorority will paint faces for free. T-Roy will be in the Kids Corner and so will the Princess and kids may have their pictures take with them.”

In the Kids Corner on Sunday, the kids may visit the Scrap Studio and make a fish out of scrap materials.

Vendors will have play activities for the kids but there will be a charge to ride, pet or bounce.

“Vendors will have a variety of activities including a petting zoo, pony rides, a train ride and four different inflatables,” Smith said. “This year, we’ve added a Water Wobble that will hold up to 200 pounds so adults can also enjoy this ride inside an inflatable ball in a 30×30-foot pool of water.”

Smith said TroyFest is a family event and the TroyFest committee has worked hard to make sure that the arts event has something for everyone and kids have been a top priority.
