Mrs. Jean T. Gibson age 84 of Troy died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the Troy Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 25, 2011, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy with the Rev. David Kirby officiating. Burial will follow in Mossy Grove Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm.

She is survived by her children Susan G. and Benny Jinright and Johnny and Tonya C. Gibson, her granddaughter Kaylin Gibson, sisters-in-law Rosa Lee Boswell, Beulah Blanton, Patty Gibson and Barbara Gibson, a brother-in-law Robert Newman, several nieces and nephews and a devoted caregiver Della Tuck.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years John W. “Billy” Gibson, her parents Oliver and Mattie Townsend, sisters Aylor Finlay, Martha Newman, Rebecca Railey, and her brothers Andrew C. Townsend III, James Oliver Townsend, and Samuel Francis Townsend.

Mrs. Gibson was born in the Spring Hill community and graduated from Troy High School in 1944. She served as the president of the Troy Charity League, and coordinated sight and hearing clinics for the Troy City Schools and Pike County Schools. She became active in the Red Cross during WWII and remained active for many years after. In 1975 she was voted Pike County woman of the year. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years, a charter member of the Pike County Humane Society, and served on the Board of Directors for the United Way, as well as serving on various boards at Troy University.

Active pallbearers will be Hugh Finlay Jr., John Finlay, Bill Finlay, Jim Finlay, Jeff Railey and Chuck Railey.
