Bobby Tomberlin believes in giving back.

And what better place than one’s hometown? On Saturday night, the Grammy, CMA and ACM award nominee will do just that when he comes home to Luverne for a special concert at the Dei Center.

The country music concert will feature Tomberlin, Hillary Williams, the daughter of Hank Williams Jr., Candi Carpenter and Shayne Fair.

“I want to do something special for the people in the Luverne area and bringing a country music concert to town that features several of my friends in the music business is a way to do that,” Tomberlin said. “It will be a great show and we invite everyone to come out and we’ll have a good time together.”

Tomberlin, who is a songwriter, artist and actor, began his career in the music business at the early age of 11 as a disc jockey at WLVN in Luverne.

“Being in the country music business had been a dream of mine, I guess, from the beginning,” Tomberlin said. “Even at age 11, my voice was deep enough that I didn’t sound like a kid so I was able to get interviews with the big stars in country music. Back then, it wasn’t so difficult to get interviews with people like Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Keith Whitley and Waylon Jennings. And, they didn’t have any idea they were talking to a kid.”

Tomberlin worked at the radio station through high school and then made his way to the Shoals area, which is a rich music community. Tomberlin learned about the music business quickly and Mel Tillis gave him his first publishing contract. He is currently a staff writer for Curb Records Publishing.

Tomberlin co-wrote the number one country and top five AC hit, “One More Day,” which was recorded by Diamond Rio. He co-authored the inspirational book by the same title. He also co-wrote the Top 10 single, “ A Good Day to Run” with Darryl Worley.

“I’ve been very fortunate to have songs recorded by Faith Hill, Kenny Rogers, the Oak Ridge Boys, Brad Paisley, Lee Greenwood, T. G Sheppard and Eddie Arnold,” Tomberlin said.

He co-wrote “Dream Big,” which is the featured song in the film, “A Pure Country Gift,” as well as a song in the film “Small Town Saturday Night.”

Tomberlin can be seen every week as a cast member and featured singer on CMT’s hit television series, “The Singing Bee,” which is a game show. “The contestants have to complete verses of a song or sing the chorus,” Tomberlin said. “There are six rounds and the final contestant receives $10,000. Melissa Peterman, who played Barbara Jean of Reba McEntire’s television show, is the host.”
