Some things are just worth the wait.

Among those are the Wild Game Supper at South Montgomery County Academy at Grady.

Folks wait an entire year to feast on some of the finest wild game that has ever been grilled, baked, broiled, stewed or fried. But the wait is almost over, said Davis Sellers, publicity chair for the SMCA 14th Annual Wild Game Supper from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at the academy at 147 Old Schoolhouse Road in Grady.

Of course, the main interest in the Wild Game Supper is what’s on the table.

Sellers said there will be a long buffet line of some of the best food ever for adventurous diners and about the same amount for those with more traditional taste.

“We’ll have about 18 different wild game dishes that include deer, wild turkeys, pheasants, quail, raccoon, possum and squirrel. We’ll have chicken and other meats for those who would rather have them,” Sellers said. “We’ll have cheese grits and all kinds of vegetables and lots of desserts, including a deep-fried fruit pie, which is a favorite.

“If you go away from the SMCA Wild Game Supper hungry, then it’s because you don’t like food.”

The Wild Game Supper starts around 6 p.m. but those who come for all of the fun afternoon events can whet their appetites with hamburgers and hotdogs and samples of “what’s cooking” for supper.

The silent auction opens at noon and the bidding will end promptly at 7:30 p.m.

“We have a lot of items to auction,” Sellers said. “Because this is an outdoor type event, we have a lot of ‘guy stuff’ like outdoor magazines and videos, knife kits and sports related items. But the auction has something for everyone and it’s a lot fun to bid.”

At the close of the silent auction, the drawing for $5,000 will be held. Then at 3 p.m. the Car Cruise-In will begin.

“The Car Cruise-In is more like a car collector’s show,” Sellers said. “It’s not structured and we don’t give prizes. Car owners just bring their cars to show off and brag about and enjoy the company of other ‘collectors.’”

The Turkey Shoot Contest will begin around 3:30 p.m. with lots of frozen turkeys and hams as prizes.

County Road 65 will provide live Wild Game Supper music beginning at 5:30 p.m. and continuing until the activities wind down.

Everyone who enjoys good food, outdoor entertainment and the fellowship of friends and neighbors is invited to the Wild Game Supper at South Montgomery County Academy on Saturday.
