Pike County commissioners braved the inclement weather last night in order to meet and discuss issues on Monday night’s agenda.

During the Pike County Commission meeting, Jerry Williams, Pike County Coroner, requested the commission to certify Mrs. Sandra Nasca as Pike County Deputy Coroner.

The commission approved Williams’ request, making Nasca the first Deputy Coroner Pike County has ever seen.

“I’ve been doing this for 14 months,” Nasca said. “I’m just coming into it in an official capacity now. I will be officially attached to the Coroner’s office.”

Probate Judge Wes Allen’s request that Sylvia Davis be moved into the newly amended court position, Recording Probate Clerk, was approved.

During the commission meeting, Allen requested, too, that there be a two week in-house advertisement for the position left vacant by Davis.

Davis was a Circuit Clerk for the Pike County Courthouse.

A further request was made by Judge Allen to let Mona Watson, from Pike Regional Child Advocacy Family Resource Center, utilize the courthouse for the proclamation of April being Child Abuse Awareness Month.

The request was approved, which will allow Watson to utilize the courthouse April 4, in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month.

In the Engineer’s Report, a request for funds to fix an existing gas pump was approved.

The money will come from the county’s general fund as a loan to the gas-tax fund to accommodate the purchase of a fuel system.

The money will be reimbursed to Pike County’s general fund at a time to be determined.

In new business, local Law Enforcement will receive a 100 percent Grant through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to purchase fingerprint equipment.

The next scheduled Pike County Commission meeting will be held March 14, 2011.
