Webster’s definition of “barrage” as the rapid and continuous delivery of linguistic communication, spoken or written.

When “Barrage” comes to Troy Tuesday night, its “delivery” will be rapid and continuous and its performance will be an exlectic mix of music, song and dance, said John Jinright, presenter chair of the sponsoring Troy Arts Council.

“Barrage” will perform at 7:30 Tuesday night at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University. General admission tickets are $20 and

“This high-octane string group features an international, multi-talented cast,” Jinright said. “This public performance is part of the new Barrage ‘Animado’ tour and features an international cast that delivers a mix of classical, Celtic and Americana music at a feverish pace.”

“Animado” means “lively” in Spanish and serves as the name of Barrage’s latest show.

“It pulls its influences from the music and dance styles of Old World Europe,” Jinright said. “Spanish, Celtic, Italian, French, Russian and Ukrainian styles are the ingredients for ‘Animado!’”

Jinright said the cast performs a variety of music and dance that offers something for everyone.

“There will be everything from Celtic jigs to classical to Latin to bluegrass,” he said. “While there are plenty of ensemble numbers, ‘Barrage’ also features the performers as soloists, in trios and as ‘Dueling Fiddlers.’”

The elaborately choreographed show includes whirling dancing set to “infectious rhythms that energize audiences start to finish.”

The concept for “Barrage” began when some violin teachers and players from Calgary, Canada were looking to create an outlet for exploring repertoire and performance styles. After performing locally for many years, the troupe went professional in 1996.

“Since then, ‘Barrage’ has entertained millions of people around the globe,” Jinright said. “They have been featured in television specials on several international networks, including PBS in the United States, the BBC in the United Kingdom and CBC in Canada.

“The Troy Arts Council is proud to have ‘Barrage’ on stage at the Claudia Crosby Theater and invites everyone who enjoys great music and great dancing to join us for this great night of entertainment,” Jinright said.
