The Mayor For a Day essay contest winners brought a unique spin to Tuesday’s City of Troy Council meeting.

Standing in for council members and the mayor, the students pushed to pass their one and only resolution which was the reestablishment of the Walnut Creek “Lake” Project.

After presenting their resolution each of the students informed those gathered what their favorite part of the day was.

Also on the agenda was passage of ordinance 313—adoption of the Pike Area Transit System Substance Abuse Policy, which would, in effect, adopt the word “marijuana.”

“The area of transportation system has an operation procedure and within that operation system there’s a drug enforcement provision, and when the Department of Transportation gave us the provision they had wanted us to pass, they left out the word ‘marijuana,’” said Mayor Jimmy Lunsford.

“So, all this is a way of revising an existing manual to add one word, ‘marijuana,’ to a list of drugs people can not use on the transit.”

The City Council also appointed Jennifer Ventress to replace the late Billy Gibson on the Troy Health Care Authority, which oversees Troy Health and Rehab.
