Those who have waited until the last minute to pay their property taxes or to take care of other business at the Pike County Courthouse just might be glad they procrastinated.

From 9:30 until around 11 a.m. Thursday, Lige Hester, Herman Gunter and the Courtettes will entertain visitors to the courthouse with a Christmas concert.

“Some of the girls at the courthouse will join us as we sing Christmas songs and a few others,” Hester said and added that the identity of the Courtettes will be a pleasant surprise.

“We just thought it would be fun to bring a little cheer to the Courthouse before it closes for Christmas. We might even have a few refreshments. So, everyone is invited to stop by the Courthouse Thursday morning whether they have business there or not. Come join the fun.”

The Pike County Courthouse will close at noon on Thursday and be closed Christmas Eve and Monday, Dec. 27.

So, those who have not paid their property taxes only have a few days to do so without having to pay a delinquent fee and interest.

Revenue Commissioner Curtis Blair said those who pay their property taxes in January will pay an addition $5 delinquent fee plus 1 percent interest.

“The interest fee is 12 percent for the year or 1 percent a month,” Blair said.

“When certified letters are mailed in March, the delinquent fee increases to $10 plus the 1 percent monthly interest.
