John Marvin Hutcheson, Jr. of Troy died December 21, 2010 in Montgomery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 23, 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, Alabama. Services will be held at 1:00 at Leak Memory. John’s burial service will be held at 3:30pm at Elmwood Cemetery, 600 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Birmingham, AL also on December 23.

He was the beloved son of John and Bertha Hutcheson and was born in Birmingham on October 13, 1930. He attended Birmingham Southern College with a B.A. in Art and Biology. John served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsmen during the Korean conflict. He also attended Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and received a MS degree in Medical Art.

John then worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as a Medical Illustrator for 31 years. In late1993, he returned to Alabama, settling in his ancestral home of Troy with his dog, Mindy.

Those who knew John remember him as a loyal and extremely thoughtful friend. He had a deep passion for history, stamps, and coins. He was also an extremely active citizen involved with many civic activities. Organizations John was involved with are too many to list here, however, here are a few: Stamp and Coin Clubs, the Olmsted Historical Society, Pike Pioneers Museum, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and Military Order of the Stars and Bars.

John is survived by his brother Bryan, sons Yancey and Shelby and their significant others Jennifer and Michaela, stepsons Vic (Samantha) and David, four grandchildren Daniel, Amber, Zandra, Summer, and Brody, and a great granddaughter, Isabella.
