Grab your tailgating goods and head outside — today is Homecoming for the Trojans, and there’s fun to be had all day long, both on and off the field.

The day starts with an ROTC Fun Run at Wendell Mitchell Hall. Runners register at 6:30 a.m., and the run begins at 7:30, said Alumni Affairs Board Executive Director Faith Ward.

The Troy University Appreciation Day Homecoming Parade begins at 10 a.m. on Three Notch in front of Walt’s Fitness Center and will run through downtown.

The parade is hosted by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and features professional and handcrafted floats, walkers, and school bands from Charles Henderson, Goshen and Pike County, said Leigh Anne Windham, president of the Chamber.

There are more than 100 entrants this year, she added.

“We have a lot of community participation in the parade,” she said.

The parade also includes participation from local business, city and county representatives and student groups and organizations.

Reunions will be held for the Clipson Alumni Chapter and Kappa Delta alumni.

Tailgating begins at 11:00 a.m. at the grounds of the Alumni House, where the alumni reunions are also held. The Shackleford Quad is open for student group tailgating.

At 12:15 p.m., the Homecoming Trojan Walk begins on University Avenue. Players and fan will then pour into the stadium for the pre-game festivities.

Pre-game events include the “Sound of the South” marching band, introduction of the Homecoming court and the Alumni Cheerleader Chapter, who will perform for the pre-game and first quarter, Ward said.

The Alumni Association is also honoring alumni Bobby Ross Phillips, Danny Grant, Robert Earl Stewart and Nick Cervera, Ward said.

Kick-off is at 2:30 p.m. — Troy plays Florida International University.

At 7 p.m., the Claudia Crosby Theater will host the Alpha Phi Alpha Greek Step Show.

On Sunday at 3 p.m., the Troy University Concert Chorale will perform their Masters in Miniature Fall Concert at Bush Memorial Baptist Church. The event will also recognize Troy native Bill Wilson, Alabama Teacher of the Year award-winner. There will be a reception to follow, Ward said.

All alumni will have a 10 percent discount at the university Barnes & Noble bookstore today. The bookstore is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Ward said.

The Office of Alumni Affairs will be open at 9:00 a.m. If you have any questions, please contact the office at 334-670-3318.

This year’s Homecoming theme is the “Celebration of the Trojan Nation.”

“Homecoming is a very exciting time at Troy, and we’re excited to have our alumni and fans back,” Ward said. “Every day is a great day to be a Trojan.”
