Though District Attorney Gary McAliley and his office have closed the investigation regarding charges of sodomy and enticing children against a Troy man, McAliley has said he will continue to accept information from the public regarding the case.

“We will continue to listen to people who come up with complaints,” he said

Tripp Dennis Freeman, 20, was indicted on six felony charges by the Pike County Grand Jury, including three counts of sodomy, one count of attempted sodomy and two counts of enticing a child. He was being held in the Pike County Jail on $240,000 bond.

Freeman, a former employee of Troy Parks and Recreation Department, is acccused of a series of incidents involving children that date back to 2007.

McAliley offered perspective on the case this week, after the grand jury indictments were served.

In his 27 years in the judgeship and eight and a half years as D.A., McAliley said he saw sex offense cases routinely.

“I’ve had many of these, unfortunately,” he said. “You have a lot more sex offenders in Pike and Coffee County than the average Joe knows.”

McAliley said he feels very confident in his case and the evidence he and his colleagues have gathered, and predicts that the case will resolve before he leaves office on Jan. 16. If not, McAliley said he has full assurance in his successor for district attorney, Tom Anderson.

“I’m proud he’s taking my place,” McAliley said.

Information regarding the registration and residences of sex offenders is public record.

The number of cases against sex offenders — including sexual crimes, failing to register as a sex offender in a new town, or living too closely to a school or other restricted area — has risen in the past decade, largely because sex offense crimes have been more aggressively reported and investigated, McAliley said.

“Law enforcement are working these cases real hard, and we’re proud of it,” he said.

Freeman’s arriagnment is set for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 22 in circuit court.
