Jordan Huff rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns — all in the third quarter — as No. 8 St. Paul’s opened the first round of the 5A playoffs with a 42-14 win over Charles Henderson Friday night at E.E. Delaney Stadium.

Huff rushed for 130 of his 188 yards in the second half, helping the Saints outscore the Trojans 21-0 in the final 24 minutes.

St. Paul’s (10-1) will host Spanish Fort Friday at 7 p.m. in the second round.

“Real proud of the way we played in the second half. We played error free,” Saints coach Jimmy Perry said. “I was real proud how our offense, defense and special teams played, especially in the second half.”

Despite committing 9 penalties for 93 yards in the first half, St. Paul’s still led 21-14 at the break.

Florida State commitment Jacob Coker got the Saints going with a pair of first-quarter TD passes to Kylen Towner (13 yards) and Ryan Myles (28 yards).

Trojans quarterback Corey Dennis countered with TD runs of 2 and 63 yards to tie it 14-14 after one quarter.

Coker connected with Thomas Hovell from 6 yards out to give St. Paul’s a 21-14 lead at halftime.

Huff took it from there for the Saints, scoring on runs of 10, 2 and 30 yards in the third quarter.

Coker finished 7-of-15 passing for 80 yards and the three touchdowns.
