The Lillian D. Green Nutrition Center Choir presented its annual concert Wednesday in celebration of God’s love and grace.

Hassie Green, Center director, said the choir sings at 11 a.m. each Wednesday and Friday and presents a concert once a year.

“We are so proud of these dedicated singers,” she said. “They are a joy and an inspiration.”

Green said the choir is open to anyone who enjoys singing.

“We don’t have auditions,” she said with a smile. “You can have a good singing voice, a pleasant singing voice or no singing voice. We all sing from our hearts.”

Veleta Waltman directs the choir and Green said her dedication is unmatched.

“Veleta has a wonderful singing voice and willingly shares her talent with us,” she said.

Special music was presented by Waltman, Juanita Wilkes, Charlie Terry, Nell King and Wiley Spivey.

Wilkes’ message to her fellow seniors was that God forgives and, for those who ask forgiveness, their sins are all tossed out. “God asks, ‘What sins are you talking about?’”

Spivey was the guest speaker for the celebration and said that futility, failure and finality are words that should not be in their vocabularies.

“Nothing it futile because Jesus gives us something to hold on to in the storms of life,” he said. “Failure is not a factor because Jesus loves us as we are. We are not condemned. We are acquitted. And because Jesus died for our sins, death is not final. He went into the tomb so that he could come out. He gave us life everlasting.”

Green closed the celebration in song by thanking all who shared in the celebration.

“It has been a wonderful day and a wonderful celebration of God’s love and grace,” she said.

“We thank everyone who was a part of this day and we invite the people of our community to join us on Wednesdays and Fridays as we sing the old familiar hymns.”
