The last time the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots suffered a loss, was in the third week of the 2009 season.

Almost exactly a year to the day, the Patriots would go down again.

PLAS hit the road to Monroeville to face off against Monroe Academy, the 2009 state champion from AISA AA Region 2, and when it was all said and done, the Patriots returned to Pike County with a 35-0 loss.

To make matters worse for PLAS, starting quarterback, Blake Floyd suffered a concussion towards the end of the game that sent him to the local hospital.

“It was a very physical game,” assistant coach Bob Pickett said over the phone on the way home Friday night.

“(Monroe Academy) is a good team and we turned the ball over a lot and that really hurt us.

“We may have lost this game, but I know our guys are going to bounce back and be ready to go next week,” the coach added.

The Patriots will play host to Ashford Academy next Friday night.
