Three Pike County citizens who have played pivotal roles in local art culture were honored before the Troy Universities Spring Band Concert Monday.

“It’s the awards the Troy Arts Council gives out every year for the arts,” said Sheila Jackson, Director of Public Relations and Tourism in Troy.

The Troy Arts Council recognized Jean Eakes for excellence in music, Pam Smith for her work in the visual arts and Jaine Treadwell for her extensive volunteer work.

“We just try to recognize those outstanding citizens in the community,” Jackson said.

The awards, according to Jackson, are meant to distinguish individuals who are not only excellent artists, “but who also help to promote the arts.”

Jackson said a committee unanimously agreed on the three recipients.

“The names were mentioned and everybody agreed,” she said.

Jackson said the three were extremely deserving of their respective awards and each had countless achievements over the last year to prove it.
