The Charles Henderson softball team’s season has come to an end, thanks to two losses at in the area tournament.

The Trojans faced three familiar opponents on Thursday in Rehobeth, Carroll and finally the host team, Eufaula, however, was only able to defeat Carroll.

The outcome at the tournament brings the Trojans’ final record for the 2010 season to 19-19.

“We just couldn’t hit the ball the way we needed to,” head coach Chad Lapp said Thursday afternoon.

“It was a bad time to hit a slump.”

In the first game, CHHS went up against Rehobeth.

Even though the Trojans defeated the Rebels less than two weeks ago at the Troy Sportsplex, CHHS couldn’t hold off an eighth inning RHS rally that downed CHHS, 1-0.

“It was a great game,” Lapp said.

“Both teams were evenly matched, but in the end they were able to get the bases loaded in the bottom of the eight and win it.

“We had several chances to win it, but we just couldn’t get the job done.”

CHHS was able to bounce back however in the second game against Rehobeth, and this time the Trojan bats came alive.

CHHS was able to take out the Eagles 9-1 and stay alive in the tournament, for at least one more game.

“The girl’s attitude was great (after the Rehobeth loss),” the coach said.

“We knew we were in a good position, going against a team we knew we could beat before we faced Eufaula.”

However, the win over CHS would be the last win of the season for the Trojans, as Eufaula would get the victory, 10-1.

CHHS went up 1-0 in the first inning but was unable to score the rest of the way.

“We held them off through four innings,” Lapp said.

“In the sixth inning they caught up to us and started hitting.”

Despite the disappointing end to the season, the coach said he was still very proud of what his team was able to accomplish this season.

“Like I told the girls after the games, I am extremely proud of them, not only as players but as a team.

“They really came together as a group this year and did some great things. They will be a team to reckon with in the future,” the coach added.

The losses also bring an end to the Trojan careers of seniors Caitlin Sexton and Taylor Smartt.

“They will always be a part of this family,” Lapp said.

“Both played great this season and did so much for the team along the way. Those two will be greatly missed.”
