With a severe weather system making it’s way over the Midwest and bearing down on the Southeast, TroyFest organizers are taking precautions.

“We do have plans for severe weather,” said Jennifer Barner, TroyFest Chair.

“We’ve been in contact with the EMA (Alabama Emergency Management Agency), and they will be on sight.”

Meteorologist John Sirmon of the National Weather Service said the weather could be problematic.

“This is just a powerful system,” he said. “Everything we’ve looked at does have us worried.”

But Troy’s festival of the arts could very well dodge most of the flak.

Sirmon said that the potential for the worst thunderstorms are Saturday from mid to late afternoon until 8 p.m.

Barner said local EMA sources gave similar reports.

“It looks like the weather is not going to come in until after dark,” she said.

Sirmon said that the storm system could bring with it lightning, hail, wind gusts and the potential for tornados, but the worst of it should clear out by Sunday morning.

Barner said the reports shouldn’t discourage anyone from enjoying TroyFest.

“TroyFest is a rain or shine event,” she said. “We still invite people to come out and enjoy all the activities.”
