Man attempts robbery at university

A local man faces robbery charges after he is alleged to have stolen a purse from a Troy University office Tuesday morning.

Lazarus Jones, 30, is said to have wandered into the Math and Science Complex Building at Troy University, take a purse from an office and flee the scene on foot.

Troy University Relations Coordinator Andy Ellis said Jones was spotted by students and faculty in the area, who then chased him down the stairs and out of the building.

Jones was apprehended in the hallway of a near by academic building Smith Hall by the group.

Jones was transported to the Pike County Jail, where he faces charges of robbery third degree. His bond has been set at $20,000.

Ellis said the purse has been recovered, and there were no serious injuries in the event.
