TroyFest seeks volunteers for event

The TroyFest team is on the hunt for those with giving hearts or even those just looking for something to do April 25 and 26.

“Basically, we need volunteers,” said Joe Hutto, chair of TroyFest volunteers.

“We need anything from food vendors need volunteers and kid’s face painting.”

Hutto said a minimum of 50 to 60 people are needed to facilitate TroyFest activities, but there’s no limit to how many the committee could use.

Some have already signed up, but he’s hoping more will follow suit.

“The deadline is set for April 20, and of course if people sign up after that we’ll still take them,” he said.

Hutto said the volunteer sign up process is simple — go to the TroyFest website at www.troyfest.com and fill out a volunteer form.

People can either e-mail them to the address provided on the form or print them out and bring it to Hutto in the Student Involvement Office at Troy University.

The form will ask what times volunteers will be available, and those who want to specify an area where they’d like to help should indicate so on the form.

Otherwise, volunteers will be assigned to areas of need and e-mailed a schedule before the festival.

Though this is Hutto’s first time leading the volunteer committee, it’s not his first time as a TroyFest volunteer.

“It was rewarding simply because you got to make something happen for the city of Troy,” Hutto said. “It’s nothing too hard or strenuous, and it’s an arts and crafts festival so the atmosphere is great.”

From one who’s been a volunteer before, Hutto said he encourages residents to get involved in this year’s event.

“It’s just an overall good cause for our city, to bring so many people to Troy to see what we have to offer,” he said.
