A long line formed outside of Betty Wagoner’s office at Charles Henderson High School Thursday morning during break as students waited to get a 50-cent snow cone and help fight cancer.

One student ordered a patriotic red, white and blue cone, while others settled for a simple splash of watermelon.

“I love cold things on a hot day,” said 10th grader Jessica Gibbons.

The sale was part of the efforts of teacher Megan Roberts’ multi-handicapped class to raise money for Relay-For-Life. The fundraiser was kicked off earlier in the week with a bake sale sponsored by Wes Roberts Photography who donated the baking supplies.

“First we started off doing a bake sale with chocolate pies and pound cake,” Roberts said.

“We’ve sold a number of those and also snow cones every day at break.”

The class has sold a pretty good number in fact.

“We have raised around $500 and every bit of that will go to Relay For Life,” she said.

Roberts explained CHHS’s multi-handicapped class is a daily living skills class.

Tasks such as cooking and washing clothes are taught and students learn to develop and refine fine motor skills.

“We teach them things that they will need when they leave here at 21 (years of age),” Roberts said.

Chocolate pies and pound cakes are still for sale for $10 and $20 respectively. To get yours, call the high school and ask for Mrs. Milton.
