As Saturday afternoon turned into Saturday evening, the Charles Henderson Trojans found themselves again on the baseball diamond, this time just a mile or so away from Frazier Field.

The Trojans’ final game of its double-header on Saturday was against No. 9 ranked Beauregard at Riddle-Pace Field.

While CHHS had double-digits in both runs and hits in its first game against Brew Tech, that was not the case against the Hornets, but it still wasn’t good enough for BHS to get a win, as the Trojans won 2-1.

“Great job (Saturday),” head coach Derek Irons told his team from inside the dugout after the game. “We faced a really good team. They brought their best effort, and we still got a win.”

While the Trojans had some struggles at the plate, they also struggled some in the field, committing four errors, one of which led to the only Hornet run of the night, which came in the first inning.

Harrison Reeves got the win for the Trojans, pitching five innings, only allowing three hits and striking out one batter.

Mitch McLeod got the save, taking over in the final two innings, striking out one and giving up one hit.

“This game proves for certain that when we focus, play with enthusiasm and execute, we are a good baseball team,” Irons said.

“This had a playoff atmosphere to it – this was a day we needed. We got two big wins over two really good baseball team.”

Dalton Harris was the key contributor for CHHS on Saturday, as he drove in both the Trojan runs and finishing 2-3.

The first Harris RBI came in the bottom of the second when the first baseman was able to send McLeod to home plate with a single to left field.

The second run came in the bottom of the fourth, when Quay Lawson touched home pate after leading the inning off with a double.

Along with Harris, Nathan Barron also finished 2-3 with a triple.

“Our biggest area where we need to improve is probably on the mound,” the coach said.

“(Our pitchers) gave (Beauregard) too many freebies but it is something that we can fix next week before the playoffs.

“I thought our defense made some good play behind the pitchers even with the errors,” he added.

The win improves CHHS to 26-7, with the regular season finale taking place on Tuesday with a double-header against Stanhope Elmore at Frazier Field.
