New location, same CC

People driving by the Square in downtown Troy might be missing a familiar sight — watching local trainer CC Matthews’ clients doing lunges, pushups and whatever other tough tasks he can impose.

But, the people on Elm Street can still enjoy such sights perhaps even more, after Trinity Fitness Studio simply made a move from the square.

While the gym changed its location in mid-March from next to Wise Office Supply, Matthews said he’s proud to call his building near the Troy Police Department home to Trinity Fitness for the last two weeks.

“Having the visibility with these windows at the intersection, but still being a business in downtown, has already increased my business,” Matthews said.

His new spot, located where Kym Box Photography was once housed, offers more space for his “boot camp” classes, classes that have seen their share of growth since the gym first came to Troy in 2007.

Between the three boot camp classes, Matthews said he has about 40 participants plus his 25 private training sessions he holds throughout the week.

And those clients, he said, have responded just as he has to the move.

“The response has been great. They like it and they like the location,” Matthews said.

The only part they might not like is the extra visibility the building’s passersby have to workout sessions, Matthews said laughing.

Matthews said the new building will also allow for some room to grow.

“This is a wider, bigger facility,” he said. “And having this new space allowed for some more equipment.

“I’ve added machines that allow more compound movements, which in turn allows you to burn more calories.”

Matthews said his new location also has some hills around it, making for some interesting, natural “obstacle” courses.

To celebrate his new location, Matthews said he’s offering a week of free boot camp to clients who sign up by April 16.

This will take $40 off one-month’s cost. Boot camp classes are offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 to 7 a.m. and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m.
