The Goshen High School softball team was looking for a strong showing against two quality opponents at the start of the week.

And that is exactly what head coach Dee Hughes saw.

The Eagles were able to improve its record to 11-11 thanks to its two wins over Brantley, 12-9, on Monday and Pleasant Home, 4-1, on Tuesday, both of which took place on the road.

“We have had a good couple of days,” the coach said Tuesday night.

“This is what we were hoping for. Now that we are playing more games, our confidence is building and this team is coming together.”

Alli Warrick got the start for both games.

During Monday’s showdown against Brantley, Warrick pitched the first three innings but left with the game tied at 6-6.

Haley Hughes came in relief and ended up getting the win for GHS.

At the plate, Nioka Slater and Sydney Sullivan each finished 2-2 while Rachael Senn finished 2-4.

“We were really able to capitalize on some good bunts (against Brantley),” Hughes said.

“We were able to get runners on base and bring them home.”

On Tuesday, Warrick got the call to the mound again to start things off but this time she wouldn’t need to be relieved.

Warrick pitched a complete game no-hitter against Pleasant Home, propelling the Eagles to a 4-1 victory.

“Alli was in need of a game like that,” Hughes said.

“Pleasant Home is an awesome team that has a great reputation – that was a big, big win for us.”

The Eagles also played well on offense, getting 11 hits.

Amanda Griggs led the way with three hits, while Slater, Shelby Vinson and Kathlyn Thomas each finished 2-4.

The Eagles will be back in action against Pike County on Thursday at home.
