Throughout the first four games of the Southeast Alabama Invitational, the Charles Henderson Trojans were able to do everything right.

The team posted a 4-0 record, winning in every style possible, coming into Saturday’s semi-final game against Rehobeth.

However, things did not go as well as the Trojans would have liked against the Rebels, as CHHS fell 6-4.

Mitch McLeod received the loss, throwing six innings while striking out six.

“Very disappointing,” head coach Derek Irons said after the game. “We just didn’t play our best baseball out there today.”

“If we go out there and play our best and do everything to win and still get beat, all we can do is tip our hats to the other team – but I don’t think that was the case today,” he added.

This is the team’s first loss since March 16 against Enterprise, a span of nine games, and just the fifth loss of the season for the Trojans, who are currently 18-5 and ranked No. 3 in the Class 5 poll.

“We play some very tough competition and we have to got be ready to go every single time we step on the field,” Irons said.

“We had a late night (on Friday) and had to get up early to play today – but those are just excuses and we are not in the business of excuses, we are in the business of winning.”

While McLeod was trying to help his team win on the mound, he was also doing it at the plate, thanks to first inning two-run home run.

“Hopefully, we will be able to look back at this game and say that this was a turning point in our season,” the coach said. “Hopefully, this loss is something that will help us refocus, get our feet back on the ground and help us get back to our core beliefs.”

The Trojans will look to get back on track Tuesday night at Frazier Field when the team will play host to Trinity.
