Rodeo spells “fun” and that’s exactly what the Pike County Cattlewomen’s Association has in mind for its Pike County Rodeo Pageant.

“This will be our 15th Annual Pike County Rodeo Pageant and every one of them has been fun,” said Betty Hixon, Cattlewomen president.

“When we organized the first pageant, the idea was to have a pageant in support of the Pike County Cattlemen’s PCA Rodeo on Memorial Day weekend and one that would be fun for kids. And, I think that we’ve done that.”

The 15th Annual Pike County Rodeo Pageant will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Cattleman Park.

The pageant is for cowgirls ages three to 18 and wranglers ages three to nine.

The age divisions for girls are Tiny Miss Rodeo, ages three and four; Petite Miss Rodeo, ages five and six; Little Miss Rodeo, ages seven through nine; Young Miss Rodeo, ages10-12; Teen Miss Rodeo, ages 13-15; and Miss Rodeo, ages 16-18.

The boys’ divisions are Tiny Mr. Wrangler, ages three and four; Little Mr. Wrangler, ages five and six; and Mr. Wrangler, ages seven through nine.

Winners from last year may not compete in the same category again this year. However, they may compete in the next age division if they qualify.

“The contestants will be judged on beauty, attire, smile, stage presence and personality,” Hixon said.

“Both girls and boys are to wear informal western wear. Each contestant will walk on stage in a model, ‘T.’ That will complete the competition.

Contestants should be at Cattleman Park by 5 p.m. on the day of the pageant.

“A rodeo theme decorated area will be arranged and those who would like to come early and take their child’s picture may do so,” Hixon said.

A fee of $25 is required by the April 9 deadline.

Entry forms are available at local schools, BB&T, Hawkins Drugs, First National Bank, Goshen Farmer’s Co-op, WTBF, Pike County Extension Office, Pike County Farmers Co-op, Sisters, She-BANG, Charles Henderson Child Health Center, Rue’s Antiques, Wachovia Bank, Troy Bank & Trust, Walker’s Western Wear, SARHA, Army Aviation Federal Credit Union, Troy Recreation Center, Piggly Wiggly, Regions Bank and The Barn in Ozark.
