Southern Family Market converting to Food World

In 2005, the Food World at the intersection of South Brundidge Street and U.S. Highway 231 became Southern Family Markets. By the end of this month, Southern Family Markets will be Food World again.

“The Southern Family Markets store will be changing to Food World, a banner already owned by Southern Family Markets Corporation,” said Angela Comfort, spokesperson for the company.

“Troy (location) was originally a Food World. We wanted to bring that name back to the community.”

Of course the new name is no reason for regulars to scrap their grocery lists, they should still enjoy a familiar southern family atmosphere in their shopping experience.

“All management will stay the same, as well as store hours and days of week that the store is open,” Comfort said.

That means that customers can expect to see some of the same faces from the deli to the checkout line, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

“The name is being changed to bring more variety and better prices back to the Troy area,” Comfort said.

“There are several special pricing surprises on a daily basis.  Our goal is to: ‘Let us help you stretch your dollar.’ Food World will have great values for the family.”

Many people may have already noticed changes to the appearance of the market.

Comfort said they have repainted, redecorated and completely overhauled the inside, and she encouraged residents to attend Food World’s official unveiling later in the month.

“Customers need to come to our Grand Opening on Wednesday, March 24 at 8am to see the difference and experience Food World for themselves,” she said. “We look forward to seeing them at the festivity.”
