Benton’s vehicle was on the wrong side of the road when it smashed head-on into a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 21-year-old Megan Wright, of Anniston.

Bond was airlifted to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery where he has been placed in guarded condition.

Wright was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

It was also reported that Benton and his passenger were not wearing seat belts in the collision in the incident around 8:45 a.m.

Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams said Benton was a senior at Edgewood Academy in Elmore.

Troopers are still investigating the crash.
