Pike Liberal Arts picked up where it left off on the baseball diamond, Friday night.

In its first game of the day against Crenshaw Christian Academy, the Patriots were able to capitalize on the Cougars’ poor pitching to the tune of double-digit runs for a third-straight game, as PLAS would win 15-4 in five innings.

On the mound for the Patriots was senior Ross Hixon, who pitched a complete game, allowing only one hit and three-earned runs.

Hixon also fanned nine Cougars.

“Pitched pretty good,” Hixon said. “During my last inning, I kind of got tired and it showed.”

“It wasn’t my best day, but I still got the job done,” he added.

At the plate, Hixon was just as productive, going 3-4 with a two-run homer, a stolen base and scored two runs.

“That probably the biggest thing,” he said. “I want to do whatever I can to get runs on the board – especially when I am pitching,” he laughed.

The rest of Hixon’s teammates were also doing their best to get runs across the plate.

Both Trey Walters and Sam Carroll had Grand Slams; Carroll’s slam put the Patriots up by 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth, and ended the game in the process.

“Every time we touch the field, we are trying to score as many runs as possible,” Walters said after the game.

“We are trying to keep the bats hot and when we go up to the plate – we swing.”

Will Starling and Nick and Justin McLaughlin, had an RBI each.

The Patriots out hit the Cougars 11-1 and improved to 12-2 overall on the season.

PLAS will be in action later on today at 4 p.m.
