Charles Henderson entered the Terry Sikes Invitational with 4-2 record.

Much had changed in under a week’s time.

The Trojans ran through its tournament games, literally, outscoring its opponents 49-5 and going a perfect 5-0.

Three of the fives games were won in just five innings, thanks to 10-run rule.

This past Saturday, completed its tournament run with an 8-2 victory over Northview in the championship game, held at Riddle-Pace Field.

“It was great to play so well (throughout the weekend),” head coach Derek Iron said. “Sometimes, you play well but don’t get the beaks you need to win. We were fortunate enough to have it all come together for a special weekend.”

Irons said the team accomplished its main goal for the tournament.

“Our goal was to defend our title,” Irons said.

“We knew coming in how many good teams would be playing for the championship with us and we knew that we would have to play great to win it again.

“It was an honor to host such a great tournament with so many quality teams in it,” he added.

Now, the Irons and Trojans will look to find a way to stay hot.

“That’s the million dollar question,” the coach laughed. “We have to continue to find ways to keep playing this week.”

“What was encouraging to see though, was we weren’t doing things that we can’t repeat. We had a lot quality at-bats and took advantage of opportunities. The real question will be how we respond to this weekend.”

CHHS wont find the answer to that question until on March 6 when it plays Stanhope Elmore and Prattville on the road.
