Army Corp. Herbert King was declared Missing in Action in Korea on Nov. 30, 1950. His remains were returned to the states in 2000 and, today, Corp. Herbert King will be laid to rest with full military honors at Carroll Cemetery in his hometown of Troy.

King’s great niece, Lytricia King, said the identification process was a very lengthy one but, through DNA testing, the military was able to positively identify King. “He went into the Army when he was 18 or 19 years old,” King said. “His remains were found along with those of other American soldiers and Chinese and Korean soldiers when Korea allowed the United States to search certain areas for those killed in action.”

King said today’s funeral will bring closure to King’s brother, Charlie King of Troy, and other relatives and friends.

“After all these years, we know for sure what happened to my great uncle and that he will be honored for his service,” she said.
