Dr. Timothy Phillips and Dr. Katrina Phillips will be the featured musicians when the Troy Music Study Club celebrates Founder’s Day on Sunday, Feb. 28.

The clarinet recital will be at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Troy.

Both musicians hold doctoral degrees from the University of Illinois and are members of the music faculty at Troy University.

“We are excited to bring this program of quality musical performance to the Troy community,” said Janelle Williams, Troy Music Study Club president.

“One of our primary purposes is to advance the cause of good music, especially American music.

“Their program will feature American musical repertoire, including the premier of a piece by Dr. Carl Vollrath of the Troy University music faculty.”

The pianist for the program will be Troy native, Dr. John Jinright, who is also a university faculty member.

The concert is free and open to the public. However, contributions toward the Troy Music Study Club’s scholarship fund will be invited.

The club gives one or more scholarships to a graduating senior from Pike County who intends to study music in college.

A reception will follow the concert in the Round Room of the church and the audience is invited.

The Troy Music Study Club is one of the oldest in the state.

The club was founded in 1905 and is a member of the Alabama Federation of Music Clubs and the National Federation of Music Clubs.
