Nobody has to toot the horns for The Dallas Brass.

Since the ensemble’s founding in 1983, the group has been doing an outstanding job of tooting its own horns.

The Dallas Brass is one of American’s foremost musical ensembles and the Troy Arts Council is extremely proud to bring the group to Troy Friday, said Dr. William Denison, TAC president.

“The Dallas Brass is well received everywhere they play ,and we expect to have a large crowd when the ensemble comes to Troy Friday night,” Denison said.

The Dallas Brass will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students.

Denison said The Dallas Brass has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and musical challenges.

“The Dallas Brass repertoire includes classical masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music,” Denison said. “In addition to their solo arrangements, the Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide.” Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati Pops, the New York pops and the Philly Pops.

The Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center and toured in Europe and the Far East. They have shared the stage with the late Bob Hope and performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush.

“The Dallas Brass has a strong dedication to working with young musicians,” Denison said. “As part of their package, they go into public schools to present clinics and workshops. Also, on Friday, they will conduct a clinic for about 100 high school brass musicians from this area and we are excited to be able to offer this opportunity to these young musicians.”

The concert is sponsored by the TAC and the Alabama State Council of the Arts, a partner with the National Endowment for the Arts, with support from Troy University.
