The Pike County Chapter of the American Heart Association is heading into the home stretch of its 2010 Heart Walk campaign.

The final week of the campaign includes the Red Cap Breakfast on Saturday, Feb. 13, the Bake Sale of All Bake Sales on Wednesday, Feb. 17 and the Heart Walk on Thursday, Feb. 18.

Gene O’Masta, board member, said the Red Cap Breakfast is an annual celebration of life event.

“All survivors of heart disease and stroke are invited to join us at 8 a.m. on Saturday for breakfast, inspirational words by Bob Whitson and the fellowship of those who have had common experiences. You don’t have to call. Just come and celebrate with us.”

The Heart Walk Bake Sale will begin at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Colley Senior Complex on Elm Street. The cakes and their cooks will be “barked” on WTBF Radio and Channel 52.

“Everyone is encouraged to tune in to get descriptions of the cakes and to learn which cakes are still available and to make their purchases,” O’Masta said. “Helion Motes has gotten 90 cakes donated by some of the best cooks in the county. This is going to be a great bake sale.”

The Heart Walk will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 at Cattleman Park and everyone is encouraged to make plans to be a part of the culminating event of the 2010 Heart Walk fundraising campaign.

Ed Barnett, captain of the Heritage Ridge Homeowners Association Heart Walk team, said the response from the Heritage Ridge community has been very good again this year.

“Neighborhood teams are very important to the Heart Walk campaign,” he said.

“Being a team member is a good way to get to know the people in your neighborhood while helping a good cause. I have some neighbors who are very close friends and that’s important to me.”

All teams are encouraged to participate in the Heart Walk and Barnett said, neighbors can come and walk together in support of the fight against heart disease even if they did not have a team this year.

Hopefully, their participation will be an incentive for more neighborhoods to form teams for the 2011 Pike County Chapter of the American Heart Association’s Heart Walk fundraising campaign.
