James Flowers

Services for James A. Flowers will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Elam Missionary Baptist Church, Springhill, Alabama, with Rev. J. C. Fryer officiating.
Burial will follow at the Churchyard Cemetery, Springhill, Alabama, under the direction of George F. Grubbs Funeral Home, Troy.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010, at George F. Grubbs Funeral Home, Troy, Alabama.
James A. Flowers was born the fourth child of the late Fate Flowers and the late Jessie M. Flowers on May 25, 1940.
He received Christ under the leadership of Rev. Hammond at Elam Baptist Church at an early age.
He graduated from Academy Street High School in 1958. There he was a member of the Marching Band and Varsity Basketball Team.
In his adult years, he was a cook at Troy State and was employed with The City of Troy Police, The Department of Corrections and The Pike County Sheriff’s Department. He called himself “Rambo.”
He was preceded in death by: his father, Fate Flowers; his mother, Jessie Flowers; sisters, Voncille Flowers and Mattie Brown; brother, L. J. Flowers; and an infant son, James Flowers, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted niece, Margie Carlton; a devoted nephew, Dewayne McCullough; two sons, James Jerome (Andrea) Flowers and Rickey Fate (Trena) Flowers; one daughter, Andretta Likely; eleven grandchildren, Jason, Jamie, James Jr., Justice and Ashia Flowers, Kenisha and Desiree Likely, Ashley, Jamila, Loryn and Trinae Flowers; and a host of other devoted family and friends.
