A fire broke out late Tuesday night at the Oakdale Apartments in Troy damaging one unit.

There were no injuries in the blaze but at least one resident of the building will be eating out for a while.

“It could have been very bad but due to early notification we were able to contain the fire to the cooking area,” Outlaw said. “We feel that it started around the stove area but we’re not sure.”

Outlaw said that he thought the tenant was visiting with a neighbor when the fire ignited.

With everyone safe, the fire department was able to minimize damage to neighboring units.

“We kept the fire from spreading to other apartments and we were able to clear out most of the smoke with our ventilation fans,” Outlaw said.

The fire chief said that there is still an investigation underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
