The Troy Arts Council will welcome the choral group the Rose Ensemble tonight at the Claudia Crobsy Theater.

The Rose Ensemble, founded in 1996 and based in Minnesota, is a vocal group that reawakens ancient music.

TAC President Bill Denison said the council holds a large event to feature choral music once a year, and this is the first time this particular group will come to Troy

“This is a small choir but a very outstanding choir,” Denison said. “We’re really looking forward to them.”

The concert “The Rose Ensemble Reawakening the Ancient” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Claudia Crosby Theater. Tickets will be available at the door and are $20 for general admission and $5 for students.

Patrons will have season ticket for the event.

The group may be making a stop in Troy for the first time, but this is far from its first performance.

The Rose Ensemble has performed for audiences across the United States and Europe with repertoire spanning 1,000 years and more than 25 languages.

The group recently appeared in Paris, Germany, Los Angeles, Milwaukee and Cleveland.

The Rose Ensemble is heard regularly on American Public Media and the European Broadcasting Union and recently was featured in live broadcasts in France, Chicago, Vermont and National Public Radio, according to a press release for the group.

The group is also the recipient of the 2005 Chorus America Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence and first-place winner in the sacred music category at the 2007 Tolosa International Choral Competition in Spain.

Aside from the concert, the group will also hold a workshop at 1 p.m. at Troy University in the Hawkins-Adams-Long Hall of Honor. The public is invited to attend.
