Eagles top Rebels on road

After losing its first 13 games, the Goshen Eagles are now on a streak headed the opposite direction.

With its win 40-36 over Zion Chapel on the road, the Eagles are on a two-game winning streak and in the process, improved its record to 2-13.

“We came out on top,” Eagles’ head coach Jonathan Deveridge said on Tuesday night. “It was a lot closer than the last time, but to win feels great.”

The win also brings GHS back to .500 in 2A Area 5 play, thanks to its second win over the Rebels in a four-day span/.

“To go Zion Chapel and win, especially on the road in a Area play, is big,” Deveridge said.

“It was a playoff type atmosphere tonight. The team was facing a lot of adversity and stayed tough and held on.

“This is the kind of mentality we are going to need to have if we want to compete for the playoffs,” the coach added.

Junior forward Ryan Anderson continued his hot streak as he led the way for the Eagles, scoring 12 points and bringing down eight rebounds.

Brandon Alford Antonio Brown also contributed with 11 points and six points, respectively.

The two also combined for 14 steals in the win.

“[Zion Chapel] played tough all night long,” he said. “I got to give them a lot of credit for that. They were prepared for us.”

The Eagles will look to continue its winning ways against Reeltown on Friday, on the road.
