Coming off its 25-point loss to Rehobeth on the road Friday night, the Charles Henderson Trojans returned home for a matchup against Dothan on Saturday.

However, the Tigers made their presence felt early and were not about to let the Trojans get anything going.

CHHS trailed Dothan by double-digits for most of the night before the Trojans could make things interesting, but by then, it was too late, as the home team fell 43-36.

“Very disappointing,” head coach Carl Hollis told his team after the loss.

“We played the last four minutes like you should have been playing the whole game.”

The Trojans shot just 31 percent from the floor, hitting nine of its 29 field goal attempts.

The loss continues the team’s two-game losing streak, dropping CHHS to 7-9 overall record.

After keeping the score close in the first quarter, the Tigers made their move in the second thanks to the Trojans only scoring two points, both of which came from the free throw line, while committing seven of its 16 turnovers.

CHHS trailed 24-11 at the break and its offensive woes continued in the second half, as the team only scored six points in the third.

With under five minutes left in the game, and starring at lead close to 20 points, the Trojans made a push, cutting Dothan’s lead to nine points, however, it was a little too late.

“Dothan always sets the tone early in the game,” the coach said.

“They play hard, they play smart and they get the ball in the hands of the right people.

“[Dothan] played good defense all night. Whenever we would get the ball, we would take a shot – and that’s not how you win ball games,” he added.

Michael Zackery led the way for CHHS scoring 13 points, nine of which came in the fourth quarter.

After his team scored just two points in the second quarter, Hollis said the only thing in his mind was “[CHHS] doesn’t want to pay the price to win.”

“There isn’t any excuse for not working hard in a ball game. You can’t have people jogging up and down the court and expect to win,” Hollis said.

The coach continued by talking about an issue he has had with his team throughout the season.

“It’s about lifestyles.

“Players have no business being out at late on a Friday night when they know they have a game the following night,” he said.

The win improves the Tigers to 16-4 on the season.

Dothan’s Greg Marsh led all scorers with 18 points.

“If you don’t lay it all on the line on Saturday night, that tells you something as a coach,” Hollis said.

“This loss hurts – this was a disgusting loss.”
