A ‘Covenant’ to fitness, witness

Just as Christians believe God made a covenant to Abraham, so Stanley Coston makes that same “covenant” to his clients.

At least that was the biblical story that led to the name of Coston’s recently opened Covenant Fitness in Troy.

The gym has been opened for five months, but Coston celebrated his opening with a ribbon cutting Thursday afternoon.

“The name Covenant comes from when God made a covenant with Abraham. We made the same covenant with our clients,” Coston said.

“Whatever situation we are here.”

Coston, originally from Mobile, has been a physical trainer for the last three years. He started while studying at Troy University working at Troy Health and Fitness.

“Training is a passion of mine — seeing people lose weight and helping people create a healthy lifestyle — honestly, it’s just a move of God,” Coston said. “God put this passion in me to help me lose weight but also to witness. As we get the body in shape, we get the spirit in shape.”

Coston’s gym has some cardio equipment and some small weights. He offers a variety of courses and personal training sessions.

“We have programs from high impact training sessions to childhood obesity to senior citizens and sports training,” Coston said.

His gym also offers boot camp training sessions.

“Our gym is not like a gym, gym,” Coston said. “We have privacy and a family-friendly atmosphere. You don’t have to worry about 15 people looking at you while you work out, and you have a personal trainer there with you at all times.”

Coston said his sessions range in price, but he said the gym has something to fit in any budget.

Coston’s wife, Dianne Coston, is a nurse and is always on hand at the gym. Coston said she will assist with the childhood obesity program.
