The Troy Junior Dixie Boys won the World Series less than five months ago, and on Wednesday night, the final pieces of the championship took place.

The baseball team was awarded their championship rings during a ceremony at the Troy Sportsplex.

The wait was well worth it.

“Every day has been a celebration since that momentous event,” Troy Parks and Recreation Director Dan Smith told the crowd Wednesday night.

The team won its district championship and the state championship before its series clinching win over Texas.

All during the team’s path to the championship, all of Troy was watching, including one of its famous baseball faces.

“It is an honor to be here and celebrating these fine young players,” Troy baseball head coach Bobby Pierce, who was also the guest speaker, said. “And it was an honor to see the journey [the players] went through this past summer.

“I am thankful that the World Series was in Enterprise,” the coach said. It was a lot of fun to watch those important games so close to home.”

Pierce continued by saying when people asked him why he thought the Dixie Troy team has been so successful for so long, he had a simple answer.

“The formula here is pretty easy.

“They have great leadership and leadership, great support from the community and just great players. Tonight is about congratulating all of them,” he added.

All 12 players received rings with their names engraved on them.

“It’s great to finally have it,” outfielder John Johnson said about the World Series ring.

“It is definitely worthy of the win and well worth the wait,” he added.

Head coach Sam Kitchens addressed the crowd by thanking everyone for their support during the summer.

“We are very blessed to have the support of the Mayor and of a special community like Troy. I am very proud of what this team was able to do and I couldn’t be happier for them,” he said.

Representative Allen Boothe, D-Troy, was also in attendance to award each of the players with a State of Recognition certificate for their accomplishment.
