After crumbling in final seconds of its game against Northview, Charles Henderson had something to prove to not only its fans, but to itself.

The same story that has played out all season for the Trojans looked like it was about to unfold during Tuesday night’s matchup against Eufaula.

However, when it was all said and done, CHHS had a different ending in mind.

Despite losing a six-point lead in the third quarter against the Tigers, the Trojans rallied in the fourth to win 65-52.

“I am proud of ya’ll for winning that game,” CHHS head coach Carl Hollis told his team in the locker room.

“You kept play, you never quit and you made the right decisions – you guys played a good game.”

The Trojans led 35-29 with more than five minutes remaining in the third, however, thanks to an 11-3 run by the Tigers, CHHS found itself trailing by two going into the final period.

The Trojans would respond.

Trying 45-41 with six minutes left, CHHS went on a 16-2 run to capture a 10-point lead.

From there, the Trojans would never look back as the team would cruise to a 65-52 final.

One of the key reasons why the team was able to come back was thanks to a part of its game that has hurt CHHS all season long – free throw shooting.

In the fourth quarter alone, the Trojans made 11 of its 16 attempts.

“We had to have this game,” Hollis said.

“We made some substitutions down the stretch, ran the offense pretty good all night, finally made free throws and played good defensively.”

Leading the way for the Trojans was Justin Davis who finished with a season high 25 points and eight rebounds.

Eight of Davis’ points came in the fourth quarter.

There were three other players that had double-digits in points as well as Michael Zackery, Jaquani Toney and Jabari Brown each finished with 12, 11 and 10, respectfully.

“We learned a lot from Saturday’s loss,” the coach said.

“I thought we played with a lot of intensity all night long but at the same time we have to stop making mistakes.”

The win brings the Trojans back to .500 ball at 7-7, and improves its home and 5A Area 3 record to 6-2 and 3-0.

While Hollis said he was thankful for the win, he was already looking towards the next game.

“I hope this win gives this team more confidence and encourages them [for the remainder of the season].

“It’s good to win area games at home, but we have to win area games on the road – and if we can get a win on Friday night at Rehobeth, I will feel very good about this team,” Hollis added.
