In the annual cross-county rivalry game between Goshen and Pike County, both teams came in scuffling and looking for positivitey to build off of.

When it was all said and done however, it was all Bulldogs – from start to finish.

PCHS jumped out to a 25-10 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as the Bulldogs rolled to a 76-44 win Saturday night at Goshen.

“This was probably the best we shot all year long,” head coach William Moguel said.

“I thought we played hard all night long. We suffered a tough loss [on Friday], but I like how the guys bounced back.”

The win improves the Bulldogs to 4-6 on the season and also snapped a three game losing streak.

Jeremy Rumph and Kendrick Jackson set the tone early for PCHS, as each contributed 10 and nine points, respectively.

Rumph hit two of the Bulldogs’ nine 3-pointers in the first half of the game to help extended his team’s lead to 20 points after two quarters at 25-15.

The Eagles were held to just five points in the second quarter.

The second half was more of the same, as PCHS came out firing on all cylinders, scoring 23 points in the third, thanks to the play of Jerelle Bailey and Anthony Starks.

Bailey added five points while Starks had six points.

Again, the Eagles struggled scoring points in the third, only putting 10 on the scoreboard.

In the fourth quarters, again, Bailey found his stroke, adding eight including two 3-pointers.

The Eagles found their stroke thanks to Marcus Coleman and Brandon Alford, however, by that time, it was too late, as the Bulldogs put the finishing touches on their 32-point win.

Rumph finished the game as the leading scorer with 16, while Jackson and Bailey added 15 and 13 for PCHS.

Alford led the way for GHS with 10 points, with Antonio Brown and Coleman finishing with seven points apiece.

The win keeps the Eagles winless on the season.

After the win, Moguel said he hoped that this win would be the one that gets his team going.

“We jump right back into Area play on Tuesday – hopefully this is the spark we need to get going.

“This was something we needed,” he added.

The Goshen girls’ varsity team did not nearly have as much trouble as the boys’ squad did against Pike County.

The Eagles soared to a 47-17 victory on Saturday night, led by Tiesha Jones and Diamond Cattrell, who each scored in double digits with 15 and 10 points.

“This is a good county rivalry, and this was a good win for us,” Goshen head coach Sam Dean said.

“I thought we played hard all night long. There were some moments where we could fell asleep, but we didn’t.

“Everyone got a lot of good playing time tonight and I liked how everyone played,” the coach added.
