When Central Michigan kicker, Andrew Aguila, won the GMAC Bowl with a 37-yard field goal, it ended the Troy careers for many Trojan seniors.

However, the kick was not the end for a few player’s football careers.

Senior linebacker Boris Lee is one of those players.

Lee was invited to participate in the NFL combine late last month and with it, a chance to help showcase what he can do for inquiring minds before April’s NFL Draft.

“I am excited,” Lee said about his invitation to the combine. “This gives me an opportunity NFL scouts and [General Managers] what I can do on the next level.”

This all came as a shock to Lee, who was unsure if he would be going to any postseason activity.

“I had no clue it was coming,” he said.

“It seemed like everyone else was getting invited to play at different All-Star games, and I was happy for everyone.

“Then I checked my e-mail and with the invitation [to the combine] and thought it was fake. After I got off the phone with [the representatives] I was completely shocked – it was an unbelievable feeling,” he added.

However, with the numbers the senior has compiled over the years, this invitation should come as no surprise.

He finished his career with 397 total tackles, leading the team in the category for the past three seasons.

He also chipped in 9.5 sacks and eight interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns.

Despite receiving the good news, Lee said he didn’t tell anyone until after the GMAC Bowl.

“Ya know, I am not a flashy person,” he said.

“I wanted to keep it a secret until after the season.”

And now, with the season completed, Lee said he will begin to prepare for the February event, even if he is a little apprehensive about the future.

“I’m not going to lie, I am going to be nervous when I first get there,” he said.

“But I have talked to some of my old teammates who went through it and asked them what to expect.

“After doing that, I felt better about it – but I still think I am going to have butterflies out the yin-yang,” the senior laughed.

The two players Lee spoke to were Leodis McKlevin and Sherrod Martin, both of whom were selected in the NFL Draft in 2008 and 2009.

So what is the biggest thing that Lee wants to show off at the combine?

His speed.

“I think I can improve upon everything, but speed is my main goal,” he said. “I want to show people that I am fast. Last time I ran the [40-yard dash] was about two years ago and I think I have gotten faster since then.”

Players who are asked to come to the combine usually have a very high probability of getting drafted in the fourth-coming draft, something Lee himself acknowledged.

“Playing in the NFL is a big possibility for me,” Lee said.

“All I want…all I need is a shot to show what I can do, and at the combine I will get that shot,” he added.

“The combine is just a big bonus for me.”
